Pros and Cons of Language Learning in After-School Programs

PRO: After-school programs can fill the gap when typical schools don’t offer language learning. They provide a regular way for a child to hear a language, to practice listening and speaking, and to be with other children who are learning the same skills.

PRO: After-school programs are usually right in your neighborhood or area, so they are convenient.

CON: Your child won’t get an immersive experience or as much intercultural and literacy training as he would in a more immersive school program or in a school where the language is part of the curriculum.
